Led by Ghanaian scholar and decolonial thinker Dr. Adwoa Owusuaa Bobie, the course is sparking critical conversations, reshaping understandings of identity and history, and disrupting long-held Eurocentric frameworks.

Internationally renowned artist Ekow Nimako will open a new temporary exhibition at Wereldmuseum Amsterdam on October 31, featuring a monumental Afrofuturist artwork constructed from one million black LEGO® bricks: Building Black Civilizations – The Nile 3025 CE. A new museum is emerging in Puerto Rico, what we now know as Casa Silvana, a self-managed cultural model, which reopens as the Museo Afro Casa Silvana (MACAS) in response to the lack of an Afro museum on the island. It thus becomes the only museum in Puerto Rico dedicated exclusively to the collection, exhibition, and study of Afro-descendant art.

The Broos Institute this month launches the short course Africa and diaspora studies. “A unique opportunity for students, professionals, and anyone interested to learn directly from an African professor about topics that in the Netherlands are often approached from a Western perspective,” the institute said in a statement.

Every week, hundreds of victims and survivors of sexual violence seek care at health centres supported by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Goma, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). In 2024 alone, nearly 40,000 women were treated by MSF teams in North Kivu province — a record high. In January 2025, M23/Alliance Fleuve Congo (AFC) forces – backed by Rwanda – took control of Goma, the provincial capital and home to over a million people, after years of fighting against the Congolese army and allied armed groups. An estimated 8.2 percent of the global population, or about 673 million people, experienced hunger in 2024, down from 8.5 percent in 2023 and 8.7 percent in 2022.
